About This Product

Kinkeshifun (Matte Gold Powder)

Kinkeshifun is pure gold processed into extremely fine particles. It is used for the finishing stage of kintsugi, adding elegance and traditional refinement to vessels. Because of its fine particles, even beginners can achieve an even, beautiful finish with ease.

A Beautiful Finish Simply by Sprinkling

Kinkeshifun does not require polishing after application, making it easy for beginners to achieve a beautiful result. Simply apply it gently with floss silk, and it adheres to the urushi, producing a matte, elegant golden glow. Made from pure gold (24K), it is highly resistant to discoloration and maintains its beauty over time.

Use in Kintsugi

Used during the "finishing" stage, the final step of kintsugi. The powder is sprinkled at just the right moment after applying decorative urushi (such as bengara-urushi), before the urushi fully cures, to give the vessel a golden glow.

Recommended For

Recommended for those who already own a kintsugi kit and have run out of gold powder. This product can repair approximately 30–50cm of typical crack lines.

What is Kintsugi?

Kintsugi—— a traditional Japanese restoration technique passed down for over 500 years. Broken vessels are carefully joined with urushi, a natural lacquer, and finished with gold. Rather than hiding the seams, kintsugi highlights them, giving the piece renewed life through its golden lines.

At the heart of this practice lies wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in the imperfect and the transient. Rather than seeing breakage as a flaw, it is regarded as a unique chapter in the vessel’s story. Kintsugi philosophy offers a quiet sense of healing in our modern lives.
