About This Product

Wood Powder

Wood powder consists of natural wood processed into a fine powder. By mixing it with raw urushi and wheat flour, you can create a durable putty called kokuso-urushi.

A Material for Kokuso-urushi to Fill Large Defects

Mixing this powder with urushi creates the ideal viscosity, hardness, and volume. Since it is wood-based, there is minimal shrinkage after drying, allowing you to create a solid foundation that firmly supports large chips.

Uses in Kintsugi

This is used during the "filling chips" stage of the kintsugi process. When repairing chips larger than 2mm or replacing missing fragments of a vessel, it is applied and shaped like a putty in the form of kokuso-urushi.

Recommended for

This product is recommended for those who wish to repair vessels with large chips or for those who have used up the wood powder from their kits. The large bag size makes it perfect for frequent kintsugi practitioners.

What is Kintsugi?

Kintsugi—— a traditional Japanese restoration technique passed down for over 500 years. Broken vessels are carefully joined with urushi, a natural lacquer, and finished with gold. Rather than hiding the seams, kintsugi highlights them, giving the piece renewed life through its golden lines.

At the heart of this practice lies wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in the imperfect and the transient. Rather than seeing breakage as a flaw, it is regarded as a unique chapter in the vessel’s story. Kintsugi philosophy offers a quiet sense of healing in our modern lives.
