About This Product

Kintsugi Powder Set

This set provides all the essential powders (polishing powder, wood powder, black powder, and bengala powder) required for kintsugi. It covers all major steps, from repairing damage to the final application of colored layers.

Polishing Powder & Wood Powder

These are "putty materials" used to restore the shape of a vessel. When combined with raw urushi and wheat flour, they serve as the base for kokuso-urushi (to fill large chips) and sabi-urushi (to smooth the surface).

Black Powder & Bengala Powder

These two-color pigments are used to create colored urushi. By kneading them with raw urushi, you can produce kuro-urushi and bengala-urushi.

Uses in Kintsugi

These materials are used throughout various stages of the kintsugi process—from "filling chips" and "surface adjustment" after bonding to the "intermediate coating" and the step "just before sprinkling powder." They are essential ingredients that transform the central component, raw urushi, into an adhesive, putty, or paint, depending on the situation.

What is Kintsugi?

Kintsugi—— a traditional Japanese restoration technique passed down for over 500 years. Broken vessels are carefully joined with urushi, a natural lacquer, and finished with gold. Rather than hiding the seams, kintsugi highlights them, giving the piece renewed life through its golden lines.

At the heart of this practice lies wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in the imperfect and the transient. Rather than seeing breakage as a flaw, it is regarded as a unique chapter in the vessel’s story. Kintsugi philosophy offers a quiet sense of healing in our modern lives.
