About This Product

Imari Ware Yunomi (Tea Cup) – Matte Gold Powder Finish

A special yunomi (tea cup) made of Imari ware from the Meiji era, brought back to life through kintsugi. Pure matte gold powder was used in the final stage, creating a refined, elegant glow. This one-of-a-kind vessel, where the antique character and golden lines harmonize, adds beauty to everyday life.

Imari Ware Produced in the Meiji Era

This is Imari ware produced in Saga Prefecture, Japan, during the Meiji era. Having been carefully passed down over many years, this porcelain has a smooth texture and a comfortable weight that fits naturally in your hand. Its design, imbued with a sense of deep history, commands a striking presence even on a modern dining table.

Matte Gold Powder Finish

Pure matte gold powder is used in the final stage of kintsugi. The understated, elegant glow unique to matte powder harmonizes beautifully with the subdued tones of this Meiji-era vessel, transforming the repair lines from "scars" into "landscape."

Restored by Sho Takeshita

Born in Tokyo | Rikkyo University graduate

His journey into kintsugi began when a tea bowl inherited from his grandmother broke. Inspired by the philosophy of transforming broken things into new beauty, he learned the craft in Kichijoji. Today, he creates works that blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with a contemporary sensibility, with kintsugi at the core.

What is Kintsugi?

Kintsugi—— a traditional Japanese restoration technique passed down for over 500 years. Broken vessels are carefully joined with urushi, a natural lacquer, and finished with gold. Rather than hiding the seams, kintsugi highlights them, giving the piece renewed life through its golden lines.

At the heart of this practice lies wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in the imperfect and the transient. Rather than seeing breakage as a flaw, it is regarded as a unique chapter in the vessel’s story. Kintsugi philosophy offers a quiet sense of healing in our modern lives.
